61% of new entrepreneurs this year are women

Women most often start businesses in trade, education, and the beauty industry

Over 153,000 new private entrepreneurs were registered by women in the first ten months of 2025 in Ukraine, according to the Unified State Register. This is 61% of all newly created businesses in 2025. The largest number of women-led businesses were registered this year in Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk region, and Kyiv region. Among the most popular fields for women’s entrepreneurship are trade, education, and beauty.

153,413 new private entrepreneurs were registered by women — this is 61% of all new registrations. For comparison, in 2021 the share of women was 51%.

Every eighth women-owned business was opened in the capital — 20,286 registrations. Next are: Dnipropetrovsk region — 15,129, Kyiv region — 11,846, Odesa region — 11,647,Lviv region — 11,274. But the highest share of women among new entrepreneurs is in Sumy, Poltava, and Odesa regions — 63% each. In no region did men manage to surpass women in the number of new businesses.

Every third new women-owned business is opened in retail — 49.7 thousand. Other popular sectors include: Individual services — 11.1 thousand, Wholesale trade — 10.7 thousand, Education — 10 thousand, Food service — 8.8 thousand.

At the same time, the beauty industry continues to be one of the most dynamic areas of women’s entrepreneurship. 88% of new entrepreneurs who opened a business in individual services are women, and 77% of them work in beauty salons, hair studios, and care studios.

Women also dominate in social care, education, medicine, consulting, and food production.

It is worth noting that foreign women are also actively registering as sole proprietors (FOPs) in Ukraine. The largest number of FOPs were opened by citizens of Russia (175), Moldova (68), Armenia (50), and Azerbaijan (49).
