This year, the number of pensioners decreased by a record 250,000 people

Over 10.2 million pensioners are registered in Ukraine as of the beginning of July, according to the Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU). Nearly 4.5 million pensioners receive a pension of less than 4,000 UAH. At the same time, the average pension increased by 8% this year and reached 5,816 UAH. The highest average pension is in Kyiv at 7,940 UAH, while the lowest is in Ternopil region at 4,436 UAH.
As of early July 2024, there are 10.26 million pensioners in Ukraine. Currently, nearly 4.5 million pensioners receive pensions of less than 4,000 UAH. It is worth noting that more than half of these pensioners receive payments lower than 3,000 UAH. Meanwhile, the proportion of pensioners with pensions less than 4,000 UAH has decreased from 51% to 43.5% in the first half of 2024. Additionally, 1.2 million citizens receive an average pension of over 10,000 UAH.

The average pension in the country has increased this year due to indexations carried out in March, reaching 5,816 UAH. This is 8% more than last year.
The highest average pension is in Kyiv at 7,940.27 UAH, which is 36.5% higher than the national average. The lowest average pension is received by pensioners in the Ternopil region: 4,436.41 UAH, which is 24% less than the national average. Overall, in 8 regions of Ukraine (Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Rivne, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kyiv regions), the average pension is higher than the national average. In one more region, Kharkiv, the payments are at the national average level.
