More than 165 thousand marriages and 124 thousand divorces were recorded in Ukraine in 2025, according to the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine and the State Judicial Administration. The number of marriages increased by 10% over the year, while divorces decreased by 12%. Currently, there are 7 divorces for every 10 marriages. Every fourth new family was formed in Kyiv. Overall, the number of marriages increased in only three regions: Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk region, and Lviv region. Meanwhile, every fifth divorce was processed through the Civil Status Registration Office (DRACS).
165,587 marriages were registered in Ukraine last year. At the same time, 124,785 families divorced — which is 12% fewer than in 2024.
Currently, there are 7 divorces for every 10 families. For comparison, in the crisis year of 2024, the number of new marriages and divorces was almost the same, while in 2021 there were 10 marriages per 6 divorces.
Most Ukrainians get divorced through the courts: 98,503 cases were recorded last year. The number of court-ordered divorces decreased by 9% over the year. Meanwhile, the number of divorces processed through the Civil Status Registration Office (DRACS) declined even more significantly — by 23%, totaling 26,282 cases.
Last year, the number of new families increased by 10% — for the first time since the wedding boom of 2022. However, the number of marriages grew in only three regions: the capital, Dnipropetrovsk region, and Lviv region. Overall, every fourth marriage was registered in Kyiv — 37,898 marriages. This is 1.8 times more than in 2024 and even 1.5 times more than before the start of the full-scale invasion.
Second place goes to Dnipropetrovsk region with 19,151 marriages. In Lviv region, 13,325 couples got married. In both regions, the number of marriages increased by one-third compared to 2024.
The number of marriages dropped significantly in frontline Donetsk region — by 40%. A noticeable decline was also recorded in Cherkasy region (—15%) and Rivne region (—14%).
2,773 couples signed prenuptial agreements last year and had them certified by notaries. This is the same number as in 2024, but one-third less than in 2021.
| Year | 2021 | 2022 | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 |

| Number of agreements | 4,099 | 1,593 | 2,586 | 2,762 | 2,773 |
Talina Kravtsova, Partner at Asters, notes that in practice, couples who have already been married for some time often apply to sign a prenuptial agreement.
«A significant number of family requests occur during certain crisis periods in married life. At such moments, the parties wish to formalize property arrangements in order to avoid the pressure of potential claims, court disputes, etc. At the same time, prenuptial agreements are gradually gaining popularity among couples who are only planning to get married. In my opinion, this is the best time to regulate property relations within a couple — when you act sincerely, trust each other, and are ready to openly discuss family finances»,
— comments Talina Kravtsova.
The lawyer also notes that the agreement must be proportionate and take into account the interests of each partner — it cannot stipulate that all property acquired during the marriage will belong to only one spouse; otherwise, the court may declare such an agreement invalid.
