Ukrainian banks have filed a record 100,000 lawsuits against borrowers this year

The leaders are Universal Bank (Mono), PrivatBank, and A-Bank

Banks are going to court more and more often. According to the State Judicial Administration of Ukraine, banks filed 100,000 lawsuits this year — almost 1.5 times more than during the same period last year. In total, banks have filed over half a million lawsuits against borrowers over the past seven years. 70% of all cases come from Universal Bank (Mono), PrivatBank, and A-Bank.

100,434 lawsuits were filed by Ukrainian banks against borrowers this year. This is 1.5 times more than during the same period last year and the highest number in the past 7 years. In total, 511,865 lawsuits have been filed by banks since 2019.

More than 70% of all lawsuits this year were filed by: Universal Bank / Mono — 28,213 cases, A-Bank — 22,221 cases, PrivatBank — 20,278 cases. Far behind them are: PUMB — 9,225 cases, Sense Bank — 6,831 cases.

Overall, in the last seven years, the unchanged leader in the number of lawsuits against borrowers is PrivatBank — 191,353 lawsuits. It is followed by Universal Bank (115,702), A-Bank (60,421), Sense Bank (25,283), and PUMB (21,476).

This year, the biggest increase in the number of lawsuits was at Taskombank — up 3.5 times. There was also noticeable growth at PrivatBank (1.8 times), Kredobank (1.7 times), A-Bank (1.6 times), and Sense Bank (1.6 times).

At the same time, many banks significantly reduced the number of lawsuits. The largest drop was at Unex Bank (4 fewer), Credit Agricole (2 fewer), and Ukrgasbank (2 fewer).

It’s also worth noting that the list of the most “active in filing lawsuits” banks has changed this year. New players — Radabank and Bank Alliance — entered the top, although they were not on the list last year. Meanwhile, Acordbank and Unex Bank dropped out of the top twenty.
