Car imports to Ukraine decreased by almost 50% in 2023

Almost 400,000 vehicles were brought into Ukraine in 2023, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. These are the lowest numbers in the last three years. Kyiv, Lviv, and Odesa regions emerged as leaders among the regions in the number of imported vehicles.
In 2023, 377,063 vehicles were imported into Ukraine. This is nearly half of what was imported in 2021 when 735,956 vehicles were brought into the country. Overall, these are the lowest numbers in the last three years.
Passenger cars are most often imported into the country — 73.7%. Motorcycles (10.1%) and trucks (9.7%) follow.

It’s worth noting that the average age of imported cars in 2023 is 10 years. Imported cars became 2 years younger compared to 2022. Over 50% of the cars imported in 2023 are 10 years old or older. The oldest car imported last year was a 1990 Toyota Supra.
Petrol cars remain the most popular, making up 43% of imports. Diesel cars accounted for 33% of the vehicles imported last year.
The highest number of newly imported cars were registered in Kyiv — 11.5%. Also in the top three are Lviv region (10%) and Odesa region (7.6%).
The most popular car brand among all imported cars in 2023 was Volkswagen — 13.1%. In the second place is Renault (9.2%), and the top five leaders also include Skoda, Nissan, and Audi.

Among models, the most popular is Volkswagen Golf (3.2%), followed by Skoda Octavia, Renault Megane, Volkswagen Passat, Renault Megane Scenic.
